Keith Wyness shocked by new Rangers departure

Former Aberdeen boss Keith Wyness has claimed Rangers are “rudderless” following the shock departure of head of football operations Creag Robertson.

Talking about the new edition of Football specialistOn the Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO of Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had long spells as boss of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy that advises elite clubs – insisted that the news comes as a surprise following the departure of chairman John Bennett and CEO James Bisgrove in recent months.

Rangers confirmed Roberston’s departure on October 16 via an update from interim chairman John Gilligan.

He responded to the blow by stating that he and George Letham are “working tirelessly alongside our executive management team to continue to drive the club forward”.

On the pitch, Philippe Clement’s side are third in the Scottish Premiership after failing to qualify for the Champions League in an early season blow.

Rangers ‘crumbled’ after new departure, says Wyness

Gilligan also revealed that the club has drawn up “short lists of very strong and experienced candidates” for the roles of CEO and president.

Wyness said Football specialistInsider Track Podcast: “This is one I didn’t expect.

“The president, the CEO and now the head of football operations have left.

“Every part of the club feels rudderless, there is infighting and the whole thing is a mess.

“There is no way any Rangers fan can deny that, and the chat will be on fire right now.

“It’s a shame because they could have challenged as a much better force.

“Everything has gotten worse since Steven Gerrard left.

“That was the last time they had any cohesion. It was a combination of decisions after that period.

“The whole thing fell apart.

“Having the head of football operations leave when you’re going through a rebuild is really important.”
