Police closed the north side of the highway after the crash

Several people have been taken to hospital after a five-vehicle crash near Motherwell.

Emergency services were called to junction five on the M74 at the Raith junction at around 8.50am on Thursday.

Lanes one and two on the north side of the road are closed.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said “several people” had been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Drivers have been warned to expect delays of up to 30 minutes.
