Va. State police cruiser overturns after being rammed by fleeing suspect

A Virginia State Police cruiser rolled over when a vehicle involved in a carjacking rammed it during a chase Wednesday that ended with the suspect being fatally shot by troopers.

The incident began around 10:15 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle wanted in a carjacking by U.S. Park Police. WRC-TV reports. The driver refused to stop and a chase ensued, eventually reaching Interstate 95 near Triangle.

As officers pursued the fleeing vehicle, the suspect struck a cruiser, causing it to overturn. The soldier inside was unharmed and no deputies were injured in the incident.

After the crash, the driver started making “several abrupt furtive movements with his hands,” and troopers opened fire. The suspect was struck by the gunfire.

A passenger was taken to hospital in stable condition after the incident and is awaiting surgery. A third suspect was arrested.

The shooting is under investigation.
