Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D Anasuya extended financial assistance of Rs 3.44 million to 172 women Self Help Groups (GAS) who were relocated from Musi riverbed areas to other locations as part of the Musi Riverfront project.

Each woman received extended assistance of Rs.2 lakh. Of this, Rs 1.40 lakh was being offered as subsidy and the balance of Rs 60,000 is to be repaid by the beneficiaries in three years, she said at Praja Bhavan here on Friday.

Furthermore, women would have different employment opportunities under the Indira Mahila Shakthi scheme. The government also offered double-bedroom houses to the evacuees besides providing free education and admission to Anganwadi centres, the Minister said.

AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Balala said that when floods occurred in the Musi River, many Malakpet residents used to be shifted to rehabilitation centers. Around 130 families have now been shifted to communities of two-bedroom houses in Pilligudiselu, near Chanchalguda.

Many residents on the banks of Musi suffered greatly and all their problems were resolved. An RO water treatment plant would be established in the community for the convenience of residents, he added.

AIMIM MLA Kausar Mohiuddin and other leaders were present.
