Al Pacino narrowly escaped a kidnapping early in his career.

In his recently released memoir, boy sonthe 84-year-old Oscar winner remembers going out drinking with Gene Hackman’s brother, Richard Hackman, “somewhere on our cross-country journey” when he encountered a woman who almost made him jump out of the car.

According to Pacino, he “got so drunk I couldn’t find my way home.” But then, “a woman said to me, ‘Oh, I’m going to take you home.’ And without thinking twice, I got into her car with her.”

“But as we drove, even though I was dazed, I could recognize that she wasn’t taking me back to where I was staying,” the actor recalled in his book. “I told her, ‘What’s going on here?’ And she said bluntly, ‘I’m kidnapping you.’ “

Pacino went on to say that he “was well known” at that time, having made The godfather already, and insisted that the woman’s behavior was “not” simply “aggressive flirting.”

“I’m from the South Bronx. When I see some crazy person trying to do something to me, I know how to escape,” he wrote. “I said, ‘No, you won’t. I’m leaving.’ She said, ‘No, no’ and kept driving.”

And in an effort to make his point, “I opened the door like I was going to jump out of the car,” Pacino said. “I was a little drunk, but I was ready to jump out of a moving car if I had to. That’s not going to happen to me, man.”

Fortunately, he didn’t have to jump out of a moving vehicle, as “she closed the door and took me home.”

The actor recently told People that he “just didn’t think (marriage) was right for me for some reason.” Additionally, a rep for Pacino said he and ex-girlfriend Noor Alfallah “have been good friends for years and co-parent” their 16-month-old son, Roman.

“It depends on who you’re getting along with,” the actor said, when asked about his feelings about marriage now. “If you live together with someone… you have to have that communion. Otherwise, it’s almost an invasion. So I like knowing that if I find a human I can connect with.”
