WJCC Schools Announces New Interim Superintendent

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) – Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools (WJCC) has announced Daniel Keever, Ph.D. as its new interim superintendent.

During the WJCC School Board meeting, Keever was announced as interim superintendent, effective February 1, 2025, following the retirement of Dr.

According to a release, Keever joined WJCC Schools as Director of Operations in 2021 and has served as Assistant Superintendent since 2023.

“Naming the interim superintendent early was important for the board to help promote continuity among our staff and community,” said WJCC School Board President Sarah Ortego. “Dr. Keever is a respected leader with extensive experience and a deep commitment to serving WJCC students, staff, families and the school community. We look forward to continuing our collaborative work and anticipate a smooth transition under his continued leadership.”

Keever’s 30-year career in public education includes serving as Senior Executive Director of Virginia Beach High Schools, experience as a school safety officer, teacher, instructional specialist, assistant principal and principal.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving WJCC schools as Interim Superintendent and am humbled by the trust the School Board has placed in me,” Keever said. “I appreciate the strong tradition of excellence that has been established and understand the important work that lies ahead. I look forward to continued collaboration with our staff, students, families and community to examine excellence and champion the success of every student.”
