Mumbai: In the second derailment incident in a span of five days on the Central Railway (CR) main line, the last bus from a place bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) came down the tracks near Kalyan on Friday for around 9pm. No passengers were injured in the incident and efforts to restore services on the route were underway, CR said in a post on social media platform X at 10:28 p.m.

Two coaches of a local train derailed at Mumbai Central on October 13 as it entered the coach shed. In a similar incident on Friday, a local train started from Titwala and stopped at platform number two in Kalyan, following which its last bus derailed. The derailment occurred after the train crossed the railway crossing point and the exact cause will be known after a detailed investigation, sources said.

CR authorities initially downplayed the incident. “Mainline services are delayed due to a technical issue. We are sorry for the inconvenience,” the railway division manager said in a post on X. Angry passengers then asked authorities to specify the real reason for the failure.

Local residents bound for CSMT were delayed 30 to 45 minutes due to the incident and passengers were forced to jump onto the tracks and walk to the nearest station as trains piled in one after the other.
