Woman dies, man seriously injured in Jackson County crash

NAPOLEON TWP., Mich. (WILX) – A woman is dead and her husband is in serious condition after a crash in Jackson County.

On Wednesday, October 30, Napoleon Township police and firefighters were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of Brooklyn Rd and Napoleon Rd.

There, first responders discovered that a Kia SUV had crashed into a semi-truck traveling west on Brooklyn Rd. Officials believe the Kia had attempted to turn left onto eastbound Brooklyn from southbound Napoleon and drove directly into the on-ramp.

The semi tried to avoid the Kia to no avail.

The Kia was driven by 79-year-old Gary Burnette of Napoleon. His wife, 80-year-old Ruth Ann, was a passenger.

Both were seriously injured and taken to Henry Ford Hospital. Ruth would later die from her injuries.

Gary is in serious but stable condition.

The semi driver, a 40-year-old man from Ironwood, was also taken to the hospital but later released.
