A deadly shooting in Delhi leaves a man and a teenage cousin dead; his 10-year-old child was injured

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man and his teenage nephew were shot dead while his 10-year-old son was injured on Thursday after two gunmen opened fire outside their home in Delhi’s Shahdara, an official said.

While Akash Sharma alias Chottu and his cousin Rishabh Sharma (16) were killed in the incident, Krish Sharma (10) sustained bullet injuries, the official said, adding that the victims were celebrating Diwali outside their home in Shahdara’s Farsh Bazar area when they were attacked around 8 p.m.

“When a PCR call was received around 8.30 pm, a police team was dispatched. The team found blood from the spot,” the official said.

Eyewitnesses told police that the attackers touched Akash Sharma’s feet before opening fire on him.

All victims were rushed to a hospital.

Akash Sharma’s son Krish and nephew Rishabh, who were standing nearby, were also hit by bullets.

The officer said that Akash Sharma and Rishabh Sharma were declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital while Krish Sharma was receiving treatment.

At first glance, there appears to be personal enmity, the police said.

Statements from the victims’ relatives will be recorded and further investigations are underway, she added.
