Police: Suspects arrested in Rensselaer are suspected of out-of-state homicide

Police: Venezuelan gang members arrested in Rensselaer. They are linked to a murder in Connecticut.

Investigators have confirmed that the two people accused of using the credit card of a Connecticut homicide victim in Rensselaer are suspects in the murder.

Connecticut police tell NewsChannel 13 that 24-year-old Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias and 22-year-old Moises Alejandro Candollo-Urbaneja are considered suspects in the murder of a 59-year-old man in Stamford, Connecticut.

Rensselaer police found the two suspects Thursday on Elm Street, one block from the Amtrak train station. They are accused of using the stolen card there. They also had items belonging to the murder victim, police said.

Both suspects are in the country illegally and are allegedly affiliated with a Venezuelan gang.

Rensselaer Police Chief Warren Famiglietti said Connecticut detectives were tracking credit card usage. They contacted his department around 3:13 p.m. Thursday. Five minutes after the call, officers found the two suspects on Elm Street, one block from the Amtrak train station, and began interviewing them.

Rensselaer Police determined the gang connection because of his tattoos and conversations with the federal investigation.

When questioned in court, Famiglietti said Galindez-Trias said she was afraid of the Tren de Aragua gang.

Both suspects are being held at the Rensselaer County Jail and waiting to be picked up by Stamford Police.

Famiglietti said he believes the suspects are in a relationship. A 3-year-old and 1-year-old found with the couple are the woman’s children. The suspected man is not the father.

Both children are in the custody of Rensselaer County Child Protective Services.
