2 Florida teachers quit rather than implement new grading policies

The big story: For years, educators in Florida and across the country have talked about finding ways to make students’ grades better reflect their performance.

They discussed ideas including net-zero policies and standards-based reporting. Pushback generally follows attempts to move away from the commonly used A through F letter system.

The school district in Bradford County, north of Gainesville, adopted a grading policy three years ago that involves a “translation chart” intended to clarify how a student’s performance in the classroom matches the state’s expectations. Three district primary schools recently made the use of the scheme mandatory.
