Princess Anne leaves at horse show months after horse injury | Real | News

Princess Anne was among thousands of people watching a horse riding show at Wembley Arena on Friday, just months after suffering a head injury in an incident involving a horse.

The Princess Royal, 74, attended the Vienna Spanish Riding School event hosted by TV presenter Nicki Chapman in London as snow-white Lipizzaner horses, a breed loved by royalty, were put through their paces.

The show of equestrian skill featured eight riders and up to 26 horses on the opening night, as the world’s oldest riding academy performed routines synchronized to Viennese classical music on its first visit to the UK in eight years.

In June, the royal spent five nights in hospital after being run over by a horse while walking on her Gatcombe Park estate in Glocestershire.

She suffered a concussion and minor injuries believed to have been caused by a kick or headbutt from the animal.

Princess Anne was treated by emergency services before spending five nights at Southmead Hospital and returning home on June 28 to continue her recovery.

At the time, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, said the late Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter was expected to make a full recovery.

The royal has a long relationship with the Spanish Riding School and has visited its training base in Vienna several times.

In 1969, she was even allowed to ride a horse during a visit with her mother.

The celebrated classical dressage group wowed the crowd with their iconic uniforms, stunning white deerskin saddles, gold bridles and luxurious velvet saddles as Anne watched from the royal box, reports The Mirror.

The academy has been practicing classical riding in its Renaissance high school tradition for more than four centuries, according to The Independent.

Nicki Chapman said: “Hosting the opening night of the prestigious Spanish Riding School tour, attended by the Princess Royal, was an absolute honour.

“It has been eight years since the Lipizzaner horses and their incredibly talented riders visited the UK, and sharing the magic with the Princess Royal and the British public made the evening even more unforgettable,” she added.
