Teen accused of killing two people and wounding six others in shootings in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (Gray News) – A 17-year-old was taken into custody early Friday morning in connection with a fatal shooting in Florida.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith says the first shots were fired after 1 a.m. as people were still gathering downtown for Halloween-related celebrations.

According to Smith, two people were killed and six others were injured in the shooting.

The six surviving victims were taken to an Orlando area hospital.

The teen, who the chief said had previously been arrested for theft in 2023, was quickly taken into custody after police saw him fire a gun.

Smith said the investigation is ongoing and did not immediately provide a possible motive for the shooting.
