2024 Mass Elections: 2nd Barnstable District State House Results

Incumbent Democratic state Rep. Kip Diggs will face Republican candidate Susanne Conley in the November general election after both ran unopposed in the September primary.

Diggs is a former professional boxer and ran a construction transportation company for 12 years after retiring from the ring.

He was inspired to run for office in 2020 after his son was killed by a drunk driver. According to him, he became the first black person elected to the state legislature from Cape Cod campaign website.

Diggs is vice chairman and acting chairman of the House Committee on Labor and Workforce Development. During his time in office, he also supported climate legislation to protect Cape Cod’s beaches and create new jobs.

Conley is new to state politics but is co-founder and president of the community organization Save Greater Dowses Beach, a member of the Barnstable Republican Town Committee and former board chair of United Way of Tri-County, according to her campaign website.

She also raises money for breast cancer research and has 20 years of experience in higher education.

Conley lists her priorities as opposing the construction of offshore wind farms off the Cape, limiting state shelter spending and supporting law enforcement.
