A lorry crashed on a major road in Kent yesterday, causing serious delays and disruption.

The incident, which occurred shortly before 12.30pm on Saturday, blocked the road between the entrance and exit ramps at Bobbing, on the A249, near Sittingbourne.

Photographs from the scene show the truck sprawled across the dual carriageway while the front cab and wheels rested on the grass verge after it crashed into the center reservation.

There were reports of debris on both sides of the roadway.

The road remained closed for almost three hours as emergency services worked to remove the vehicle and clear the scene.

The road was later reopened at around 3:15 p.m.

It is unclear what caused the truck to cross the main road.

Subway contacted Kent Police to see if anyone was injured in the incident.

A National Highways spokesperson said at the time: ‘Traffic is being stopped and returned at this junction due to a flat lorry. Kent Police are at the scene along with National Highways traffic officers.

An updated statement issued later said: ‘The #A249 has reopened at the junction of the northbound #B2006 near #Sittingbourne in #Kent following the recovery of a wrecked lorry.

‘Thank you for your patience, please have a safe trip.’
