PSA: Silent Hill 2 Remake fans warn about progress failure at Brookhaven hospital

It’s been almost two weeks since fans were welcomed back into Silent Hill, but there’s still no fix for a glitch that’s blocking some players’ progress at the end of the Brookhaven Hospital level in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

By clicking on an innocent-looking interactive warning after visiting Brookhaven’s rooftop, James may become stuck and unable to progress further. Luckily, fans who have encountered the issue are taking the time to warn others about how to avoid it, so here’s a quick, spoiler-free summary to make sure you aren’t affected, too.

Here’s Eurogamer’s review for the Silent Hill 2 remake in video format.

When you access Brookhaven’s third floor, you’ll see a porthole on a door near a save point with an interaction symbol, prompting a brief cutscene. So far so good. When you return to the third floor with the roof key later, however, be sure to manually save here before heading up to the roof (I’ll explain why shortly).

After the roof, you will find yourself on the other side of the same guarded door. Alive! But this is where things can go wrong, unfortunately…

Whatever you do, do it no press the lookout interaction prompt after You’ve been on the roof. Doing so will teleport you to the save point again, essentially preventing you from exploring the area you just unlocked. Instead, ignore the warning on this side of the door and continue exploring.

If you accidentally press the interact button and find yourself on the wrong side of the door, fear not. While some players have reported issues with autosaves here, there are he must there was an autosave just before this point, allowing you to reload on the correct side of the door.

Otherwise, unfortunately you will have to go back and reload your last manual save. This is why it’s important to do a manual save before going up to the roof, in case the automatic save fails for some reason.

As of now, there’s no word from the Bloober team on when a fix might be on the way, but we’ll keep you posted.

Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2 has sold a total of 1 million copies across physical and digital media since its global release on October 8.

“Against all odds, Bloober Team has delivered a remake that expands Silent Hill 2 in all the right places and pays close attention to what it preserves,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s Silent Hill 2 Remake review, awarding the game an impressive five points. five stars in the process.
