Crime has plummeted on East 14th Street – and all it took was a stabbing.

Since an apparent lunatic stabbed three people on East 14th Street near Avenue A in June… in which a 38-year-old man was murdered and leaving two others seriously injured, According to data from Mayor Adams’ office, crimes in the area have dropped by more than 57%.

There were six incidents in the 28-day period ending October 13, compared with 14 incidents in the same period in 2023, the data shows.

Overall, crimes, including homicides, burglaries and assaults, are down 12.5% ​​so far in 2024 compared to the same time frame in 2023.

Calls to 911 about the troubled area have dropped nearly 34% in the past 28 days compared to the same period in 2023, while 311 calls have dropped about 44%, the mayor’s office said.

“The undeniable progress on 14th Street demonstrates the proven success of our community-driven, multi-agency approach to quality of life and public safety issues,” Adams said.

After the stabbing, the city launched a multi-agency operation in August, daily NYPD checkpoints were installed on East 14th Street, increasing trash collection and outreach to the homeless.
