Amorim said fixing Man Utd’s show starts with sacking Ten Hag’s deputy and ‘cleaning the decks’

Amorim said fixing Man Utd’s show starts with sacking Ten Hag’s deputy and ‘cleaning the decks’

Troy Deeney has told Ruben Amorim to get rid of Ruud van Nistelrooy at Manchester United, so he only has ‘his people’ around to sort out the ‘s***show’ he is in charge of.

Amorim has been officially announced as the next Man Utd manager. He succeeds Erik ten Hag, who was fired from the Red Devils in fourteenth place in the Premier League.

Amorim will look to solve United’s problems when he joins the club on November 11, taking charge of interim boss Van Nistelrooy.

But according to former Premier League striker Deeney, his first port of call should be getting rid of the assistant coach.

He wrote inside The sun: ‘Don’t arrest Ruud. You want to clear the decks once you get there, with only your people around you. Only then can you find out what the problems are – and how to solve them.’

Deeney also believes that Van Nistelrooy’s stock will not be affected even if United are beaten 7-0 by Chelsea in their next match as it is not his fault as the transition period distracts the players.

But Van Nistelrooy recently stated that he will help United over the next season and a half, given the length of his contract. That means that while Amorim brings his own staff with him, he may not have a say in the coach’s future.

“As assistant and now as interim manager, and then I will go back to my assistant contract that I have here for this season and next season. I am very motivated to stay here and help the club move forward. That is my absolute goal,” said Van Nistelrooy.

Apart from Van Nistelrooy’s possible dismissal, Deeney believes Amorim has a ‘great job’.

He described United’s position as a ‘s***show’ with no clear place to unravel it, and wished the manager ‘good luck’ in sorting things out at the club.
