The M25 is facing serious delays this morning after a Tesco lorry caught fire in the middle of the motorway.

The incident occurred between Clacket Lane and Junction 6 at around 10pm on Sunday.

The video shows the Tesco truck completely engulfed in flames, as huge plumes of smoke rise from the burning vehicle.

Six crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue attended the scene on Sunday night to battle the “atrocious and intense” flames.

Highways England said specialist restoration would be required and the road surface would likely need to be resurfaced.

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘We have five fire engines and two water carriers responding to a vehicle fire on the M25 between Clacket Lane and Junction 6.

‘The road is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area.

The M26 westbound between Junction 2A near Wrotham Heath and the M25/A21 was closed due to the incident.
