Silent Hill 2 remake developer Bloober Team is currently on a roll, receiving critical praise and over a million sales, pulling off the controversial project seemingly against all odds. Best known for hits like Blair Witch, The Medium and Layers of Fear, the Krakow-based studio says its days of making “shitty” games are officially over; Don’t expect the recently announced Cronos: The New Dawn to stink.

Speaking to GameSpot (thanks, VGC), Bloober co-director Jacek Zieba acknowledged his troubled past and promises that players can look forward to future releases to maintain the work ethic and best practices established when remaking Silent Hill 2: “We want to find our niche, and we think we’ve found our niche, so now let’s just – let’s evolve with it. And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically in a way, like with Layers of Fear (2016), the people at the studio thought. , ‘Okay, we’ve played some shitty games before, but (we can) evolve.”

But while the standard of quality has certainly risen, don’t expect their new success to cause a sudden genre shift; The Bloober team is equipped to create terrifying survival horror games, a situation that is likely to persist. Co-director Wojciech Piejko added: “We’ve put together a team that loves horror. So I think for us it wouldn’t be easy to switch (to other genres), and we don’t want to.”
