Montpellier considers Jean-Louis Gasset after dismissal of Michel Der Zakarian

According to a report from L’EquipeMontpellier HSC are considering hiring Jean-Louis Gasset as their new coach after club president Laurent Nicollin sacked Michel Der Zakarian last night following a 5-0 thrashing at home to Olympique de Marseille.

Last night, Nicollin took the extraordinary step of announcing live on air that he had fired Der Zakarian. “We can’t change 25 players, the president said DAZN Franceso, unfortunately, I took the initiative to fire Michel tonight.”It was a decision that meant that Montpellier would immediately start working on finding a new coach.

The club are hoping they can convince Gasset to come out of retirement just a few months after he leaves the game. Gasset had a relatively successful spell as caretaker at Marseille last season, where he helped right the ship and guide the club to the Europa League semi-final, but was unable to secure European football.

A behind-the-scenes position at Montpellier?

L’Equipe writes that Montpellier could try to attract Gasset not only with the role of head coach, but also with a place in the club’s management, as happened with Fred Antonetti at SC Bastia.
