There have been many low points for the New York Jets over the years. The Butt Fumble and Bill Belichick’s defection to the rival New England Patriots stand out, although anything after the team’s Super Bowl III loss over the Baltimore Colts in 1969 deserves consideration.

But while falling to 2-5 with Sunday night’s 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers found a new way to crystallize Jets fans’ embarrassment.

“Jets season is on fire and Aaron Rodgers is on the sidelines eating his boogers,” one fan wrote on social media after NBC cameras appeared to show the four-time MVP doing just that.

Sunday night was bad enough for Rodgers, who reunited with former Packers teammate Davante Adams only to hit the All-Pro receiver on just 3 of 9 targets. And then there were Rodgers’ two interceptions that night, which only gave fans more ammunition online.

Referring to footage of Rodgers nursing his nostrils, one fan commented that it was his “third pick of the game.”

Was it a choice or a scratch? And why was Aaron Rodgers’ index finger in his mouth?

Others chose to attack Rodgers for proudly refusing to take any COVID-19 vaccine.

‘Vaxxed?’ wrote one.

“Ivermectin side effects,” said another.

Lastly, one fan simply berated Rodgers for eating empty calories.

‘Holy cow,’ he wrote. “No nutritional value in it.”

Things were so bad for Rodgers that fans began to miss Zach Wilson, the former first-round pick who exploded with the Jets before resurfacing as a backup in Denver this year. A year ago, with Wilson replacing the injured Rodgers, the Jets were 4-3. Now they are just 2-5 and fans are bracing themselves for another rebuild.

“Someone needs to vaccinate America against having to watch this QB, a conspiracy hound, a fake smart-aleck and his horse charge on national TV all the time,” wrote longtime NFL columnist Jason La Canfora in X.

‘I wish I was immune to the offense of their rubbish. Is there a chance for this? Who is Rodgers going to blame for this shit show?

Afterwards, Rodgers criticized the media for doubting the Jets.

When asked about keeping the belief alive in the team’s dressing room, Rodgers said the players need to ‘stop listening to you, number one’.

Rodgers added: ‘I’ve only been able to win, as of this week.’

The Jets travel to Foxborough on Sunday to face the 1-6 Patriots – the only team below New York in the AFC East standings. Rodgers and the Jets previously dominated the Patriots, 24-3, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on September 19.
