66-year-old Pensacola man charged with bank robbery

ESCMBIA COUNTY, FL (WALA) – A 66-year-old man has been charged with stealing from a Regions Bank in Crestview.

Crestview police say officers responded to a robbery at the Regions Bank on South Ferdon Boulevard on Friday afternoon. When CPD officers arrived on scene, they said the suspect fled to another shopping plaza before driving erratically away.

Officials say the suspect was a man wearing a fluorescent yellow safety vest, a large straw hat and a face mask. The man allegedly had his hand in his pocket and claimed he had a gun.

According to CPD, their investigation determined the suspect was 66-year-old James Keith Johnson of Pensacola.

Crestview police wrote in their statement, “Johnson is no stranger to bank robberies as he is a Federal Bureau of Prisons parolee having been arrested in March 1995 for two separate bank robberies in Florida. He was arrested after laundering the paint from the bank. stained banknotes, via a casino coin machine in Mississippi. He was convicted in Florida in November 1995 and sentenced to 327 months in prison.”

Officials say Johnson was arrested at his home on West Bay Point Drive in Pensacola by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. According to jail logs, Johnson is currently in the Escambia County Jail and awaiting extradition to Okaloosa County.
