Chandigarh: 74-year-old woman loses gold chain to thieves under Section 45-A

A 74-year-old woman was robbed of her gold chain by two bike-borne assailants near her home in Sector 45A while returning from her morning walk on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 8 am when Kailash Rani, a retired employee of the Chandigarh education department, decided to rest on a park bench near her residence after a walk. Two men on a motorcycle left the park and the passenger approached it. The man snatched the gold chain and the pair sped away on bicycles.

The Burail police station was alerted and authorities rushed to the spot. After recording the victim’s statement, the police registered a case under sections 304 and 3(5) of the BNS against the unidentified assailants.

Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing security camera footage and conducting neighborhood inquiries to locate the suspects.

Man arrested for stealing purse

A 43-year-old woman was the victim of a purse snatching near a house in Sector 40-B on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at around 11:30 am while she was traveling from Sector 39 to Sector 41-A.

In her statement, Nancy, a resident of Sector 41-A, informed the police that a man on a black motorcycle stole her purse. The stolen bag contained her cell phone, Aadhaar card and $$3,000 in cash.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under no. 2 of article 304 of the BNS, with additional charges under no. 2 of article 317 of the BNS, at the Sector 39 Police Station.

During investigation, the accused, identified as Parampreet Singh, a 33-year-old resident of Moga, was arrested.

Motorcyclist’s cell phone was seized

Two unidentified men riding an unmarked motorcycle snatched a mobile phone from a scooter driver near Namdhari Marble showroom, CTU bus stand, Mullanpur.

The incident took place on October 14 at around 11:15 am when the victim, Vijay Kumar, was heading to Sector 43 Court on his electric Scooty. According to Kumar, a resident of Mullanpur, he placed the phone on the tray on the left side of his Scooty.

While Vijay was heading towards Chandigarh, two men on bicycles approached him from the Dhana side. The pilot asked for information and, in the meantime, the pillion passenger took his cell phone from the tray. Vijay immediately chased them but they fled towards Maloya road.

In his statement, Vijay admitted that he was shaken by the incident and did not immediately approach the police out of fear. However, on October 20, he lodged a formal complaint at the Sarangpur Police Station.

A case under section 303 (2) of BNS has been registered at Sarangpur Police Station.
