Auto Workers for Trump leader addresses Michigan rally after Ford Motors announces layoffs

Rust Belt autoworkerstraditionally a cornerstone of the blue voting base, will not be casting a vote for Vice President Kamala Harris this time, the founder of Auto Workers for Trump 2024 pointed out.

Brian Pannebecker, the group’s founder, addressed a cheering crowd of supporters former President Trump at a rally in Warren, Michigan, Friday, just days before the presidential election.

“We are not voting for Kamala Harris. Don’t believe anything you see Shawn Fain talking about,” he said. “The autoworkers – UAW members – are voting for Donald Trump for president.”

For Pannebecker, the move came after layoffs of autoworkers for some as the Biden-Harris administration has pushed for more electric vehicle mandates.

Ford announced layoffs at the Dearborn plant Thursday and said it would shut down the assembly plant that makes the battery-powered truck from mid-November to Jan. 6.

“We continue to adjust production for an optimal mix of sales growth and profitability,” Ford said.

The company has chosen to invest more to hybrid vehicles versus electric vehicles recently due to significant losses in the EV division due to tepid consumer demand.

The layoffs come just four days before the presidential election, as state voters debate government support for electric vehicles.

Trump and Harris have found their niche attention to Michiganwhere the dueling campaigns invest time and money in the state of the battlefield.

In July the United Autoworkers The UAW Board of Governors (UAW) has endorsed Harris.

“Our job in this election is to defeat Donald Trump and elect Kamala Harris to build on her proven record of results for the working class,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement at the time.

“We are at a crossroads in this country. We can put a billionaire back in power who opposes everything our union stands for, or we can elect Kamala Harris, who will stand shoulder to shoulder with us in our war against corporate greed.”

Trump has tried to court auto workers during his campaign, promising to bring jobs back to the U.S. and impose new tariffs to prevent the import of Chinese vehicles from Mexico.
