Macon-Bibb commissioners consider half a million dollars to repair giant pothole

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — The giant pothole on Mead Road could be fixed soon.

On See Click Fix, the county’s traffic complaint system, citizens report complaints about this road. Mike Brooks said: ‘I hit it today and thought I hit a deer’

Macon-Bibb commissioners are now deciding how much funding is needed to repair Mead Road.

District 2 Commissioner Paul Bronson says he’s also heard about the poor condition of the roads.

“I worry about the damage to people’s cars, the worst that could happen is you’re driving your car and you hit that pothole and now you have a damaged rim or a blown tire or whatever either,” Bronson said.

Bronson says repairing this road is a project they’ve been working on for years.

“One of the key things we have done in this region over the last 4 years is to provide habitat for humanity and provide housing for the residents of this region. So it would be very appropriate to s “ensure the roads are developed and repaired to the best of our ability,” Bronson said.

The commission plans to allocate half a million dollars to repair the road.

Wallace Herring, District 2 commissioner candidate in this year’s election, supports the plan and explains why it costs so much to pave this section of Mead Road.

“It takes about $400,000 to pave a mile of road and we have about 1,100 miles of road in Macon-Bibb so as you can see it takes a lot more money to make sure we have enough funds to pave the road,” Herring said.

Herring hopes commissioners will approve repairs to the road and other roads throughout the county.

“I absolutely support paving and approving our roads. Our roads are the lifeblood of our society and it’s how we move through the city, so having safe roads in our city is not an exception, that’s the rule,” Herring said.
