Dine like royalty at Forsyth’s new restaurant.

Her Majesty Kitchen is now open to serve Middle Georgia.

From its blend of classic New Orleans cuisine, Creole cuisine and bold Spanish flavors, this restaurant is one not to be missed.

Although the name may sound familiar.

Chef Chelsia Ogletree, owner of Her Majesty Kitchen, first opened her pop-up catering restaurant on Johnston Street in Forsyth in 2020.

However, after Forsyth’s Old Mill Market Company announced it would close in 2023, chef Chelsia Ogletree decided to pack up her bags and move a little further away.

She revealed that people near and far contacted her after the Old Mill was closed and expressed their hope that she would buy the building.

“It was truly a godsend for Old Mill to sell this place and I prayed a lot about it. Like I really prayed a lot,” Ogletree said. “I wanted a bigger space to serve, try different things and host events.”

It seems the prayers were answered as on April 30, Her Majesty Kitchen opened its doors in its new location on East Adams Street.

It was the first phase of opening the restaurant, but Ogletree shared that she still had a few projects to complete. She wants to install more shelves behind the bar and along the walls and cover some of the seats. The restaurant is also awaiting its liquor license which will be ready in June.

When I visited the restaurant, I was blown away by the look of the restaurant. It looked not only finished, but ready to party.

As soon as I arrived, I felt transported to a chic New Orleans jazz bar. There was a velvet seating area to my right, a cozy bakery to my left, and a beautiful hostess area, complete with a magnificent chandelier. As I walked around, the intricate details did not disappoint.

There’s a juxtaposition of textures, from velvet to smooth marble on the bar, wooden tables and brick walls. There is also a rich contrast of colors: reds, golds and blacks, with touches of green, purple and gray.

Near the bar there is a high table with photos and a quote from Shakespeare. Continuing the literary vibe, there are plenty of accessory books throughout the entryway, with floral wallpaper adding a feminine touch.

Not forgetting the legendary wall of jazz instruments.

Kiss from the chef to the decor. This gives the royalty of southern jazz. But speaking of royalty, how did the restaurant get its name?

“I actually received the name after a week of fasting and prayer in 2008,” Ogletree said. “‘His Majesty’ is based on Romans 8:17, which talks about being heirs of God, making us majestic and royal.”

As for the menu, Ogletree said, just like her other location, she will have a rotating menu. However, this will be updated quarterly, as opposed to weekly or monthly.

The current menu is an “overview” menu. On this one, there are starters like crawfish bread and boudin balls, as well as mains like crispy shrimp po’ boy, pineapple shrimp tacos, bourbon salmon and chicken Cornish roast.

And we have to discuss the delicious baked goods of Lenise Leknes, who works alongside Ogletree.

Leknes’ bakery, called Treats with Lenise, is a full bakery inside Her Majesty that offers cupcakes, cakes, cookies, macaroons, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls and flans. As if that wasn’t enough, Leknes also makes homemade beef or chicken empanadas.

Custom orders are available and Treats with Lenise can be booked for events such as birthdays, weddings, showers, reunions, gender reveals and more.

“We want people to go out and make memories with their family, friends or kids without having to worry about what’s for dessert,” Leknes said. “It’s all about service and how we can make them feel loved.” »

In addition to twice-monthly live music and other special events, Her Majesty Kitchen can be reserved for catering or rented for receptions, parties and more.
