Jerry Lawler breaks silence on WWE contract expiration

Reports this week indicated that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler was no longer signed with the company on a full-time contract, with later reports indicating that the legendary “King of Memphis” was still with the company under a WWE Legends contract.

Lawler was asked about his status during a conversation with PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, with Lawler revealing that his WWE career is well and truly over:

“Another thing that a lot of people wonder about, my career probably ended with WWE and it’s just one of those things that goes along with me getting over everything that happened with the ‘Stroke and that was my, my just sitting behind a desk and commentating on a match again was extremely difficult,’ Lawler said.

Lawler has had several stints in WWE dating back to 1992, with his run on commentary alongside Jim Ross in the vaunted Attitude Era, one of the greatest announcing teams in professional wrestling history. The Memphis legend has struggled with health issues for several years, suffering a stroke in 2018, before a second “major” stroke in 2023. Lawler also suffered a heart attack during an episode live from WWE Raw in 2012.
