Suspect in fatal Vancouver Mall shooting arrested by Vancouver police

The suspect in Thursday night’s fatal shooting at Vancouver Mall has been arrested, Vancouver police said Saturday evening.

Travis L. Ward, 22, of Vancouver surrendered to police after Vancouver detectives, with the assistance of SWAT, arrived at Ward’s home on Saturday, according to a statement from the agency.

Ward was booked into the Clark County Jail, where he faced one count of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault, police said.

One man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting on Halloween night at the mall’s second-floor food court.

The two men injured in the shooting were treated at an area hospital and released Friday.

Vancouver police said several tips that helped identify Ward and his whereabouts came through social media.

Police have released photos of two women who were at Vancouver Mall at the time of the shooting.

Through tips on social media, detectives were able to identify and contact the women, who cooperated with detectives in the investigation. Neither is considered a suspect or a person of interest in the case, police said.

The shooting happened around 7:30 PM, while a trick-or-treating event was being held at the mall. The shooting sent hundreds of customers running for the exit or taking shelter in stores throughout the mall.

The shopping center reopened on Friday afternoon.

The Vancouver Police Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation.
