Central IL farmer ready for planting window

A central Illinois farmer says he’s ready to open a planting window.

Lucas Roney, who grows corn and soybeans in Moultrie County, tells Brownfield it’s been a slow planting season.

“Here, a few weeks ago, we had a little window where we were able to get into the ground a little bit.” He says, “We have about 80 acres of corn planted and actually the conditions I planted in that day weren’t perfect. »

Roney, who uses a cover crop of cereal rye before soybeans, says he was able to end it early.
