Washington, United States:

Donald Trump indicated on Saturday that he was not considering his former Republican rival Nikki Haley for vice president.

The 77-year-old real estate mogul, who hopes to return to the White House, is keeping everyone guessing who he will choose as his vice presidential candidate in the November vote.

Senators Tim Scott and JD Vance as well as New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik were named as the most likely candidates.

“Nikki Haley is not being considered for VP, but I wish her luck!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Haley, who was Trump’s last rival in the Republican primaries, would indeed have been a surprising choice.

The 52-year-old has yet to endorse the man who, in the final months of the primary campaign, called her a “bird brain.”

But the former South Carolina governor is popular with the moderate and independent voters that President Joe Biden is keen to wrest from Republicans and whom Trump would do well to bring to justice.

AFP contacted the Trump team earlier this week for clues about the type of person who could turn the candidate’s head.

A campaign aide objected.

“Anyone who claims to know who or when President Trump will choose his vice president is lying, unless that person is Donald J. Trump,” he said.
