The head of Hong Kong’s prisons vows to take fearless action against the violence following the attack on an officer

Hong Kong’s Correctional Services Department (CSD) will stand firm against any form of violent intimidation in the wake of a recent alleged gang attack on an officer, the commissioner said after visiting the injured worker.

Commissioner of Correctional Services Wong Kwok-hing condemned the violent attack during the visit to the United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong on Sunday, while confirming that the officer’s condition was stable.

“The CSD has strongly condemned the lawless violence and we believe that the attackers blatantly questioned the rule of law and undermined social order,” he said.

“Every colleague in the Department of Correctional Services is a professional law enforcement officer and will never fear any form of violent threat.

“The CSD will maintain its position and act in accordance with the law to ensure that the institution maintains good order and discipline.

But Wong declined to explain whether the officer was attacked because of a personal feud with the attackers, saying the matter was still under investigation and it was inappropriate to reveal further details.

“We will continue to cooperate with the police investigation and hope that they will arrest the perpetrators of this crime as soon as possible,” he said.
