Amazon Fire TV Stick users could face £50,000 fine if caught illegally streaming football matches

Football fans who use their Amazon Fire TV Stick devices to illegally stream Premier League matches have been given a stern warning. They could face fines of up to £50,000 as home searches become “inevitable” under a new crackdown on illegal streaming.

The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) and other UK authorities are stepping up efforts to combat illegal streaming. High-profile raids on illegal streaming operations have been carried out in conjunction with Internet service providers (ISPs).

This action has intensified since the introduction of the Digital Economy Act 2017, which targets both providers and viewers of illegal streaming services. The legislation has equipped UK law enforcement with more robust tools to aggressively pursue and prosecute those involved in digital piracy.

In the UK, illegal streaming constitutes an infringement of copyright law. Violators face heavy fines and prison sentences of up to ten years. Those distributing illegal streams have been fined more than £50,000, according to Birmingham Live.

Although viewers of these streams generally face less severe fines, they can still be hit with fines often exceeding several thousand pounds, reflecting the seriousness with which the UK takes action against the infringement of the right to author.
