The mandatory pit stop is a crucial element of Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America races. Nico Jamin and Kiko Porto executed theirs perfectly, leading to overall and Pro class victory in Saturday’s race which boasted a record field of 40 cars.

In a disjointed race due to three caution periods throughout the course, Jamin and Porto took victory under the final yellow of the No. 4 Ansa Motorsports Lamborghini Broward Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2. This is the duo’s second victory in three races this season.

Jamin was in second place when the mandatory 10-minute pit window opened on the restart after the second caution with 23 minutes remaining in the 50-minute race. Jamin was among the first to stop. Knowing he would have fresher tires due to his co-driver’s limited green flag between the yellows, Porto put the hammer down on his first few laps and took first place at the end of the pit cycle.

“I knew that when I got in the car (the tires) would be in good condition to really attack, and not necessarily to save the tires,” Porto said. “When I went to the track, I just tried to do qualifying laps because the car was good and the tires were still there.”

Porto still held a comfortable lead when the final warning came out two minutes from time. Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 1 Lamborghini Palm Beach Huracán with Andretti, with co-drivers Danny Formal and Ryan Norman, finished second.

“It’s awesome,” Jamin added. “We have worked a lot with the Ansa Motorsports team to offer a very good program with fast drivers. Everyone is doing a great job. I’m so happy for the team to get this second win of the season. This ride was crazy, man; the beginning was absolutely eventful. Huge battles on track but always respectful with each driver.

Pink Unicorn Takes ProAm Class Victory

Andy Lee and Slade Stewart took the ProAm class pole in Flying Lizard Motorsports’ No. 14 Lamborghini Newport Beach Huracán and were never seriously challenged in their quest for victory. It’s their first win together in their second season in the popular pink unicorn car nicknamed “Sparklefarts.”

“It all depends on the team,” Lee said. “Our team gave us an incredible car, which made our job relatively easy. You just had to maintain and not make mistakes. Slade came in and held on until the end. We’ve been working on this for a few years so it’s so great to finally be able to share the top step with him.

“I was just as consistent as I could be every round,” added Stewart, who won the 2022 LB Cup class championship, “and I brought Sparklefarts home under the checkerboard.”

Late driver pairing combines well to win in Am

Al Morey and Cole Kleck weren’t even officially paired to drive the No. 28 Alliance Racing Lamborghini Palm Beach Huracán until the day before their first race together. Undaunted, they took victory in the Am class, finishing just ahead of Alliance teammates Andre Lagartixa and Robert Soroka in the No. 25 Lamborghini Palm Beach Huracán.

“What I’ve tried to do is keep my nose clean since (the start of) P2,” said Morey, who started the race in the No. 28, “to avoid some of the debris in these yellow periods that we had, to save the tires and to give (Kleck) as much information as possible when I handed the car over to him.

Kleck added: “He is the best teammate I could have right now. He gave me the tires to win the race, and we won the race. He feels good.”

“This is my first time winning,” Morey said. “I can’t even believe it.”

Staab wins his first LB Cup victory

Michael Staab scored a wire-to-wire victory in the LB Cup. He put the No. 48 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini Palm Beach Huracán on pole for the class and didn’t look back in scoring his first Super Trofeo triumph.

“I would never have managed Laguna,” he said. “Every training session, I pushed even more, I tried new things. I just put it all together and realized it was happening. This is my first real professional victory, so I’m really on a high right now! »

Race 2 of the Super Trofeo weekend airs live on Peacock and IMSA.tv at 12:35 p.m. ET on Sunday.
