Google Messages begins testing RCS message editing

Google’s work to let you edit an RCS chat continues, with some Messages users on Android already seeing the feature. This would bring Google Messages in line with other modern messaging services.

Once available, a long press on a message displays a pencil-shaped “Edit” button next to Copy, Delete, Star, and Overflow in the top toolbar. This will place this RCS discussion in the text field with Google indicating how you will “Edit Post” and the option to cancel.

According to @Jhowkira2000 on X/Twitter (via AssembleDebug, Android Police), you have 15 minutes after sending to make the change, which corresponds to WhatsApp and iMessage. On the security front, the original message can be read from the aforementioned overflow menu > Show details.

From this report, the message edition appears when the two parts in conversation have functionality. The feature went live over the past week to some beta users, but there’s nothing on the devices we checked in what appears to be a limited test.
