12-year-old student dies in hostel, minister shocked

Visakhapatnam: A 12-year-old Class VII student, Konathala Shyamala Rao, collapsed after consuming breakfast at the BC Welfare Hostel in Vizianagaram and was later declared brought dead by the doctors at the Vizianagaram government hospital.

Students who witnessed the incident said that after breakfast, Shyamala Rao told his hostel mates that he felt unsteady and collapsed in the mess. He was rushed to the government hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Preliminary investigation showed that he may have suffered cardiac arrest. The boy hails from Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district.

Meanwhile, BC Wellness Minister S Savith expressed her shock over the sudden death of the student at the BC Hostel. She immediately ordered BC Welfare Officials to file a report with her.

She said hostel staff had informed the boy’s parents over the phone. She said the government would support the family in all respects.
