Washington state teenager in custody after shooting leaves 5 family members dead

A Washington state teenager is in custody after authorities say a domestic violence incident inside a home left five family members shot to death and a sixth injured on Monday.

Officers responded around 5 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a home in Fall City and immediately took a teenager into custody while another injured teenager was taken to a Seattle hospital, a King County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said. , Mike Mellis, at a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Officers entered the home and discovered the bodies of two adults and three juveniles.

“After the bodies were discovered, we clearly understand that this is an extremely significant crime scene,” he said.

One teenager was taken into custody and a second teenager was hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Police officers found three other young people and two adults dead at the scene. (FOX13 Seattle KCPQ)

A teenager who was shot twice escaped and ran to her neighbors for help. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where medical officials said she was in “satisfactory condition,” FOX13 Seattle reported.

“I only saw the kids in the garage yesterday afternoon,” neighbor Lynne Trowern told the outlet. “I’m shocked. I kept crying.”

A former neighbor told FOX13 the children were all educated and homeschooled. Others described how children used to help their parents and neighbors with household projects and how the family used to walk around the lake almost every day.

Mellis said the shooting appeared to involve family members, although investigators did not yet know how they were related.

King County Councilwoman Sarah Perry said in a statement that her “heart aches for the lives lost,” saying “five family members, out of seven, were tragically killed.”

“This morning we learned of a horrific situation in the Lake Alice neighborhood of Fall City in which five family members, out of seven, were tragically killed,” she wrote.

King County Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall told reporters the shooting left her “very sad, very disturbed.”

“I know my team will do an excellent job investigating this, and we will determine the facts surrounding this incident, but it could take several days, weeks, months,” Cole-Tindall said.
