David Walliams has promised the new version of Little Britain will be as bold as the original.

The former Britain’s Got Talent judge, 52, wrote and appeared on the controversial BBC Three sketch show – which ran from 2003 to 2006 – alongside Matt Lucas, 50, and promised that the newly relaunched show would include non-PC jokes. to what had happened before in the original and in their other popular comedy Come Fly With Me.

He, however, insisted the content would not be released in “bad taste”, after original episodes were removed from iPlayer and Netflix.

During an appearance on The Therapy Crouch podcast, he said: “We’re writing again but we want to create entirely new characters like Come Fly With Me.

“It’s a bit edgy, there’s some jokes that aren’t in bad taste, but, you know, like Little Britain and Come Fly With Me.”

Speaking to Abbey Clancy and Peter Crouch, Walliams clarified: “No, it’s not trendy, it’s avant-garde.

“It’s a line between…like some people might be a little shocked.”

Speaking of “toeing that line,” he pointed to controversial Netflix specials, including those from Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle and Jimmy Carr, also calling them “edgy.”

“They’re all really, really edgy, they’re very exciting and funny and shocking and all those things,” Walliams continued.

“And a lot of people, not everyone, but a lot of people like it, right?

“I grew up watching Life of Brian, which at the time was banned in some countries and people were protesting outside the cinemas.”

He added: “I’ve always liked things that are on the edge, but I think it depends on where you do it and what time you do it, I mean, I like avant-garde comics, Jimmy Carr, I think he’s incredible, Frankie Boyle, he’s incredible.

Walliams went on to say that he had “always” liked “the gross stuff, the dangerous stuff and the shocking stuff”, calling things like that “explosively funny”.

Little Britain has been criticized for its stereotypical ethnic and social portrayals, deemed derogatory towards LGBTQ community groups and wheelchair users.

When the comedy show’s reboot was announced last year, former Bake Off host Matt stressed it would be “different in many ways” to what was initially seen in a bid to avoid negative reactions, with discussions about the presence of “diverse talent” on screen and in the writers’ room.

He told The Sun: “It’s something we should have done but didn’t at the time.

“But we were doing the show at the same time as a lot of other people who were doing what we were doing and had that approach.”

The comedian insisted he and his co-writer did not want to cause “further upheaval” with the new version of the show.

He explained: “Because some people are upset about what we’re doing, or what we’ve done, out of respect for those people, I’m not talking about it publicly because I don’t want to further upset the people who were upset .

“I totally accept that there are different opinions. I accept that people feel very different from others and I respect everyone’s opinion, wherever they come from, on this subject.

“I see things differently now than we did. Things have changed and I respect that.
