Driver who hit Watertown home caught

After a pickup truck crashed into a Watertown home, narrowly missing the resident, and then drove away early Saturday morning, Watertown police asked the public for help.

Several people contacted Watertown police on Saturday, Nov. 2, with information about a suspicious vehicle possibly involved in the collision that occurred earlier in the day in Watertown, according to a news release. The damage to the pickup truck the informants told police about was consistent with the vehicle hitting a house.

The Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office assisted the WPD in locating the vehicle and the vehicle’s owner in Kingsbury County. The vehicle was a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra that suffered extensive front-end damage from the crash. Following completion of an investigation, a 72-year-old man was arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Failure to Provide Information (SDCL 32-34-6) and Unlawful Entry/Exit from the Controlled Access Way (SDCL 32-26-10) . . The man was not injured in the crash.

The Watertown Police Department would like to thank the public and the Kingsbury County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in locating the vehicle involved in this incident.
