Two people arrested after 3-vehicle crash leaves woman with critical injuries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating after a three-vehicle crash left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the crash happened on Sunday morning on Interstate 24 near the Bell Road exit.

Police issued warrants for 45-year-old Yimer Veleno for reckless aggravated assault, vehicular assault, open container violation and having no insurance.

Veelo’s front-seat passenger, whose name has not been confirmed, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said Veelo and the driver of a white panel van were driving aggressively just after 2 am and were trying to run each other off the road.

As the two vehicles approached the Bell Road exit, the Honda hit the back of the van and the side of a Mazda SUV.

Police said the van drove off as Velena and the driver of the Mazda stopped on the exit ramp.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, 25-year-old Nilubon Wiphawachart, was driving impaired and was arrested for DUI.

“Officers are asking for the community’s assistance in locating the van. It has rear end damage to include broken rear windows,” police said. “Anyone with information about it and/or the driver has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.”
