After Elon Musk, Argentine President Milei to meet Mark Zuckerberg and other Silicon Valley tech executives: report

Argentine President Javier Milei plans to meet Silicon Valley’s top tech executives, including Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerbergthe leaders of OpenAI Inc., Apple Inc.And Alphabet Inc.’s Googleamong others.

What happened: Milei plans to travel to San Francisco to speak with several top tech leaders, following her meeting with Tesla Inc. CEO Elon MuskBloomberg reported.

The Argentine president’s mission will also include meetings with other leading companies in the technology sector. The trip will be led by the Argentine Ambassador to the United States.

This visit follows a meeting between Milei and a Silicon Valley investor Pierre Thiel in Buenos Aires earlier this month. Milei also had two meetings with Musk, including one at the Milken Institute conference in Los Angeles.

The President’s Council of Economic Advisers is coordinating the final details of the trip, which aims to attract investment to position Argentina as a hub for artificial intelligence.

Why is this important: Milei’s upcoming visit to Silicon Valley is the latest in a series of high-level meetings with technology leaders.

Earlier in May, Musk met with Milei in Buenos Aires and publicly endorsed investments in Argentina. Musk posted: “I recommend investing in Argentina” after the meeting.

This was Musk and Milei’s second meeting in as many months — the two also met in April at Tesla’s manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas.
