Kate Hudson delivers her verdict on dress inspired by Sabrina Carpenter’s How to Lose a Man in 10 Days

Sabrina Carpenter’s homage to Kate Hudson’s iconic yellow dress in How to lose a man in 10 days received the seal of approval from the rom-com star herself.

The “Espresso” singer wore the yellow mini dress version of the dress to her birthday party after turning 25 on Saturday (May 11). Her stylist Jared Ellner confirmed he purchased the outfit from Depop so she could channel the film’s protagonist, Andie Anderson.

The enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy stars Hudson and Matthew McConaughey as lovebirds who enter a relationship under false pretenses. Andie (Hudson) is a magazine journalist who writes an article about the disappearance of a romantic interest through a series of intentional mistakes.

Meanwhile, advertising executive Ben (McConaughey) dates her in order to help her launch a diamond campaign at work. However, sparks fly despite their professional agendas.

Hudson gave the outfit her approval, commenting, “It’s that Andie Anderson Espresso” with a series of yellow heart emojis and one blowing a kiss.

Fans celebrated the cultural crossover when someone quoted lines from the film responding, “No, I didn’t, Ben, because you can’t lose something you never had.” while others shared a reference to Carpenter joking “she works late because she’s an actress.”

The famous original yellow dress, with a backless and deep neckline, was designed by Carolina Herrera and costume designer Karen Patch, and was worn in the climax of the hit 2003 film.

The Donald Petrie-directed film ultimately grossed over $105 million (£85.8 million) at the US box office and has since become a favorite of the romantic comedy genre.

Carpenter also celebrated with a cake mocking Leonardo DiCaprio’s history of dating younger women.

The singer shared photos from her birthday party, including a photo of herself posing with her large birthday cake, decorated with yellow flowers and gold candles.

The dessert also contained a popular meme about actor Leonardo DiCaprio and his history of dating women 25 or younger. The meme shows a selfie of the actor looking at the camera, with text on it that reads: “No, don’t be 25, you’re so sexy aha (sic).” It’s unclear where the popular meme came from.
