MAKKAH, May 19 (Bernama) – Armed with little strength, septuagenarian Azizah Awang Dollah is enthusiastic about performing the hajj pilgrimage this year, after declining the offer four times for various reasons.

Azizah, 73, a retired Company Commission of Malaysia (SSM) from Kelantan, who is now in the Holy Land without a companion, said performing the hajj pilgrimage alone does not discourage her from becoming a Duyufurrahman (guest of Allah). for this year’s hajj season.

“This is the fifth time I have received an offer to perform a hajj pilgrimage. When I received the call for the fifth time, I told myself that I had to go because Allah had called me, so I had to be brave.

“The first time I had to decline the offer because I fell and broke my leg; the second and third times were due to COVID-19; while the fourth time was because I changed my phone number, which prevented Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) from contacting me,” she told the media when met at the Abraj Al Janadriyah hotel here.

Although she recently had to use a wheelchair to perform Umrah, Azizah, who has a 40-year-old child and two grandchildren, is confident that she can perform the hajj well and has the knowledge from the hajj course she attended. she participated when accepting the offer.

Azizah, who also worked at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education, said she started saving in a TH account when she was 29 years old.

“My first savings was only RM10 a month, then it increased a little to RM20, but over time, as I had a little money, I added more from time to time. time.

“Anyone who wants to perform the hajj must make a deduction from their salary every month, otherwise it will be difficult to save consistently,” said Azizah, staying at Maktab 77.

Sharing the secret to staying healthy, Azizah, who suffers from gastritis problems, said she is careful about her diet, especially avoiding fatty, spicy and oily foods.

“I prefer vegetable soup and cook with olive oil. In addition, I also take ‘habbatus sauda’ (Nigella sativa or black cumin), since I was very young,” explains Azizah who avoids eating ‘budu’ (hot sauce made from fermented anchovies and spices) and reduced sugar consumption.
