Arjun Kapoor again in Singham

Singham Again, the fifth installment in Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe and the threequel in the Singham series, has set the box office on fire. Ajay Devgn plays Bajirao Singham in the lead role in this action thriller, which also stars Ranveer Singh’s Simmba and Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi. As seen in the trailer itself, the action thriller is a modern interpretation of Ramayana. From Ravana’s kidnapping of Sita to Rama’s gathering of his army to go to Lanka and rescue her, the events of Singham again parallel the events of the mythological epic starring Ajay Devgn as Rama, Kareena Kapoor Khan as Sita, Ranveer Singh as Hanuman, Tiger Shroff as Lakshmana, Arjun Kapoor, as Ravana and more. In short, Singham Again does a good job in interpreting Ramayana, bringing the key events from the mythological saga to the screen in an action-packed avatar.

For a hero versus villain saga to work, the basic principle followed in cinema is to make the villain so strong that his eventual defeat should be celebrated by the audience. The writing team of Singham Again, which consists of as many as nine writers, adheres to this principle and thus, Arjun Kapoor’s character Danger Lanka aka Zubair Hafeez gets the best treatment in the film. From his terrifying build-up to his fiery introductory scene where he burns down a police station and kills fifteen cops and from his epic background score to his maniacal laugh, it won’t be wrong to say that Arjun Kapoor is the best part of Singham Again. who is otherwise nothing more than just a mindless campaigner. Arjun easily steals the show from Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar as a menacing villain.

Singham Again is the biggest film in Arjun Kapoor’s filmography and also results in one of his best performances. While Ajay’s strong presence and Ranveer’s hilarious one-liners also make Singham Again watchable, it is ultimately Arjun who triumphs over the trio of Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi. Credit must be given to it Rohit Shetty for entrusting the actor with this role and making him greater than the previous villains in his Cop universe. Arjun has shown his acting chops in films like Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, Finding Fanny and Kuttey, and with Singham Again he has given the filmmakers a good reason to give him author-backed roles. In Rohit’s Ramayana, Arjun’s Ravana ultimately emerged as the winner.
