A woman is still shocked by how her friend’s wedding turned out.

In a post shared on the Reddit page r/weddingshaming, one user claimed that he canceled his vacation to attend his friends’ wedding – only to discover, weeks before the nuptials, that he was not invited to the actual ceremony.

The woman explained that she and her boyfriend frequently attended music festivals and were planning a trip to one of them that would take place on July 7th, before discovering that their “good friend” was getting married on the same date.

“They went on to say that a festival is not as important as a wedding, that we should cancel it and go to their wedding,” the user said. “So we did. We canceled everything. To be at our (friend’s) wedding.”

Then, the newlyweds suddenly became evasive about sharing details. Just four weeks later, the friend told the woman that the wedding would be held on a boat and that only family could board, but she would be welcome to join the party in the evening later.

The bride and groom also informed the woman that the wedding date was now July 5th and not July 7th.

Still, they attended the nuptials despite all the changes.

“We ended up renting a taxi for a group of friends who also ‘missed the boat’ to at least have a drink and party,” concluded the woman. “Except it was a VERY expensive, cash-only bar. So no drinking, no bad music, no wedding ceremony. And no holidays.”

Other Redditors were shocked by friends’ manipulation of the truth regarding the wedding date and guests’ expectations.

“I don’t understand why you showed up to the reception after finding out how rude your ‘friends’ are,” one user wrote. “The reception is not worth your time after the way they treated you”

Another asked: “Who lies about their wedding date and makes people cancel their plans just to not invite them!” “I would have walked the second I realized how much they disrespected me,” wrote a third.

Other Redditors were surprised by their friend asking them to cancel their own plans. “When I was inviting people to our wedding, some already had other plans,” wrote another.

“I would never tell them to postpone their plans for our wedding. And if I were so foolish to do that, I wouldn’t have this wedding without the friends I scolded for coming. What a selfish person… are you still friends?” ?”
