Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that Rishabh Seth alias Badshah was hit by the bullets in the chest and stomach, killing him on the spot.

A 27-year-old man was shot dead while his friend suffered bullet injuries during a brawl between two groups on Khingra Road in Jalandhar late on Saturday evening. Police said both groups had an old enmity over a gambling problem.

The deceased has been identified as Rishabh Seth alias Badshah, a resident of Ali Mohalla, and the injured person has been identified as Ishu Kumar.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said Rishabh was hit by the bullets in the chest and stomach, killing him on the spot. “Ishu suffered bullet wounds in his thigh and is being treated at a hospital,” he said.

Sharma informed that the main suspect, identified as Sahil Kapoor alias Mannu, was arrested within hours of the incident.

“During the preliminary investigation, it was found that the groups led by Rishabh and Mannu were involved in illegal gambling activities. The duo had an argument on November 1 over a gambling problem, which was resolved at the time. Later on Saturday evening, both Rishabh and Mannu again got into a heated argument following which Mannu along with his accomplices attacked Rishabh and his friend and fired bullets at them,” Sharma said.

The police commissioner also added that one country made a pistol and two empty shells were recovered from Sahil Kapoor’s possession. “There are already five criminal cases against him.”

The police commissioner said four others booked in the case were Manav, Nannu Kapoor and Gaggi. A case has been registered against them under the headings of murder, attempt to murder, rioting, criminal intimidation and arms trafficking.

Meanwhile, relatives and friends of Rishabh blocked Rama Mandi Road after his death and demanded the arrest of the accused. The roadblock was lifted after police assured that they would be able to arrest the main suspect.
