Hays Public Library Foundation to raise funds for Kansas Room renovation

Submitted

The Hays Public Library’s Kansas Room will undergo a renovation later this year as part of a basement update project. The Hays Public Library Foundation is hosting a fundraiser, beginning May 20, 2024, to cover the costs of the Kansas Room portion of the project.

The Kansas Room is a place to explore the people and history of Kansas and the Great Plains, conduct genealogical research, and attend presentations. Updates to the Kansas Room will include new furniture, flooring, lighting and workspaces to improve the use of the room for the special collection as well as presentations and meetings. This project is expected to take place in the final phase of the overall basement project, which is expected to begin in August.

The Hays Public Library Foundation’s fundraising goal is $150,000. Donors who give a minimum of $25 will receive a special Hays Public Library sticker. A plaque will be placed in the Kansas Room with the names of those who donate $1,000 or more. Donations can be dropped off at the library or made online at hayslibrary.org/fundraiser/.

The last two weeks of May kick off the fundraising effort, which will continue throughout the year. Money raised at the 4th Annual Wine and Cheese Fundraiser on October 19 will also go to the Kansas Room Project. Tickets for this event go on sale August 19.
