Yellowstone isn’t over yet, it’s only halfway through its fifth season.

On Monday, Kevin Costner – who plays patriarch John Dutton on TV’s number one show – shared some insights with GQ.

And Costner also said that he and Taylor had a “private” reason for not moving forward, implying that they disagreed on how the series should end.

But the star, who is promoting his new film Horizon, said he wanted to help bring an end to the Dutton saga for the sake of “the public”.

Just hours after Kevin’s GQ interview surfaced, Paramount Network announced that Yellowstone had already begun production at the end of season five and was in the process of doing so. currently filming in Montana.

As previously announced, the series is expected to return in November 2024.

DailyMail.com contacted Paramount to see if Costner could star in one of the new episodes.

As of now, it doesn’t appear to be included.

Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and has since attracted up to 10 million viewers.

In the series, Costner plays John Dutton III, who fights to save his ranch; he has been compared to a character from Godfather because he uses murder to keep his businesses and family together.

The show needs an ending, but it’s been said that Kevin is too busy, wants too much money, or wants too much say to do it.

He has now told GQ that he tried.

“It’s kind of my Western ethic,” he said.

“I kept quiet about it all and got beat there. My classmates are confused. The crew was confused.

He explained that he only did Horizon because he wanted to work more and felt he could do Horizon and Yellowstone at the same time.

“I always wanted to do this movie,” Costner said, “and I was doing Yellowstone.” I love Yellowstone.

Costner said he was so committed to Yellowstone that he renegotiated his original three-season contract for a total of seven seasons overall.

But there were delays due to COVID, the writers’ strike and “other disagreements over timing,” GQ said.

“We very rarely started when we said we would and didn’t finish when we said we would,” Costner said.

“And I was OK with that. I really was. That suited me, but it wasn’t a trend that could last for me.

So he worked on Horizon.

Yellowstone then proposed splitting the fifth season of the series into two parts.

“And their big plan was to do eight every once in a while, and then in the fall to do eight more,” Costner said.

“I said, ‘I have a contract to do Horizon, and I have people and money. “I think people thought I couldn’t ride it, but I really didn’t care what anyone else believed.

“It’s kind of my Western ethic,” he said. “I kept quiet about it all and got beat there. My classmates are confused. The crew was confused.

According to Costner, he tried to help finish season five. But, he says, “the scripts never arrived. They still haven’t shot him. For all I know. The scripts never arrived. And then at one point they told me we didn’t have an ending or anything.

Costner then proposed: “I said, ‘Well, if you want to kill me, if you want to do something like that,’ I said, ‘I’ve got a week before I start.’ I will do what you want to do. “‘

A spokesperson for Paramount Network refuted Costner’s account of that conversation, GQ said.

They negotiated further, and he only had a week left before he had to do Horizon.

“Someone had the idea that I only wanted to work a week,” Kevin said.

“And that’s one thing I saw in magazines: I only wanted to work a week.”

He is now described as the person who holds back the end of Yellowstone.

“My big disappointment is that I’ve never heard Paramount or 101 really come to my defense and say, ‘That’s not true. He was going to do three more seasons.”‘

He added: “I started out only giving three seasons, ended up doing five and got mixed up in something that I don’t feel like there was a single person there never told the story properly, ever, about what I had done and what I did” I was willing to do. Costner said he believed that for Sheridan, Paramount and 101 Studios, which were in the process of developing several other Yellowstone spin-offs and originals, “other shows became more important.” And that suited him. But he wishes the story had been told differently, publicly. “That really bothered me, that none of them would actually try to set the record straight.”

In an emailed statement to GQ, a Paramount network spokesperson wrote: “Kevin played an important role in the success of Yellowstone. Although we had hoped to continue working with him, we unfortunately did not find a window that suited him, all the other talent, and our production needs to move forward together. We respect that Kevin has prioritized his new film series and wish him the best.

Then they announced on Monday that they had already started filming in Montana, making it clear that they had moved forward.

Costner said he would return if his conditions were met. “Well, Taylor and I know what the conditions are for coming back, and I’m just going to keep that between us,” Costner said.

He told GQ that as far as he was concerned, his terms were “reasonable.”

“And if we can’t do it, it’s because at the end of the day it’s unreasonable for them or something.”

He added that he loved John Dutton: “I love this world. I am a very script-oriented person. And if the scripts aren’t there now, I need to know what I am. I also want to make sure the character fits what’s important to me. And it’s quite simple. It’s just between, again, Taylor and me. Will we ever get there? I don’t know.’
