Rockville man arrested in Silver Spring shooting, charged with assault and reckless endangerment

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – A Rockville man was arrested following an Oct. 31 shooting incident in Silver Spring in which gunfire struck nearby apartment buildings, according to Montgomery County police.

The shooting happened in the 14100 block of Whispering Pines Court around 4:14 p.m. Officers from the 4th Precinct responded to reports of gunfire and found six shell casings and two bullet holes in adjacent apartment buildings at the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Investigators determined that the incident began as an argument involving an adult male and female and a group of individuals. During a search in the area, officers saw a man who matched the suspect’s description. The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Jayson Edwards of Rockville. Officers also observed a woman leaving the area in a black Toyota Camry.

The 4th District Special Assignment Team conducted a traffic stop on the Toyota Camry near New Hampshire Avenue and Cannon Road. Edwards, the front passenger in the vehicle, was found to have an active warrant out of Prince George’s County. He was taken into custody, while the female driver was briefly detained and then released.

Police obtained search warrants for the Toyota Camry and the home associated with Edwards and the female driver. During the search, officers found two handguns – a .22 caliber and a privately made 9mm firearm (PMF) – along with spent shell casings.

Edwards is charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the Silver Spring shooting. He is currently being held in the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit on both the outstanding Prince George’s County arrest warrant and the new charges arising from this case.
