Spirit Airlines waives cancellation fees and change fees

Las Vegas, USA – November 9, 2022: Spirit Airbus A321 airplane at Las Vegas Airport (LAS) in the United States.

Erie, Pa. (WJET/WFXP) — Just days after Frontier Airlines announced it would waive most change and cancellation fees, Spirit Airlines is announcing plans to waive those fees as well. These new plans are effective immediately and apply to all tickets offered by Spirit.

Before Spirit implemented the new changes, passengers had to pay between $69 and $119 for ticket changes or cancellations, with the cost depending largely on how far away your flight date was. During the pandemic, major airlines like Delta and American got rid of change fees for most of their tickets.

The move comes after the Department of Transportation (DOT) adopted new rules requiring airlines to promptly provide passengers with automatic cash refunds when they are due, as a crackdown on unwanted charges continues.

Frontier, while removing its change and cancellation fees, has introduced new flight packages and transparent pricing. The cheapest package is the Economy Package, while the Business Package is the most expensive, which includes 2 checked bags as well as priority seating and other benefits.
